Full Bio

Andy Short grew up just outside Boston and sadly did not inherit the wicked Boston accents of his parents. He has spent his career working at the intersection of arts, addiction recovery, and LGBTQ community building. Currently, he is a Sr. Regional Manager at The Phoenix- a nonprofit that creates a sober active community free for people in recovery. It’s a mission and program built to cultivate healing connections around exciting events. His region is a national leader in impact, serving over 40,000 individuals under his leadership. In this role he crafted and led a national effort to super-serve LGBT+ communities and designed learning & development programs to enhance The Phoenix’s volunteer-first model.

As a gay man in recovery from addiction, Andy understands how personal narrative, mission, and service can combine to create change in relationships and community. This is the defining theme of his work and career. He is a 2019 recipient of Wayside Youth Coalition's Community Spirit award, the winner of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network's 2019 Excellence Award in the Young Professional category, and a recipient of the Upswell Fellowship. Andy currently lives in Hollywood with his drag queen boyfriend and Chihuahua mix, Potato. He occasionally bicycles in far off lands and hopes to be on Survivor someday.
