CBT: Foundational Skills in CBT

 John Herdman, Ph. D. is an author and retired psychologist. He has over 49 years of school, military, counseling, and consulting experience. Dr. Herdman has conducted trainings nationally and internationally on a variety of topics. His professional clinical training has major emphasis on solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral approaches to help clients with problems of everyday living, especially mental health and addictions.

In the substance abuse field, Dr. Herdman founded two licensed outpatient treatment facilities in Pennsylvania before relocating to Nebraska. Additionally, he has experience with detox and residential substance abuse programs. Dr. Herdman has been a technical assistance consultant to the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (OSAP), now the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) in the area of evaluation design for substance abuse prevention projects and has extensive experience with needs assessments for school-aged children and for business and industry. He had been instrumental in helping the Air Force with their drug and alcohol counselor certification and was a board member to the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC). He lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is the CEO of HerdmanHealth, an IT company that provides software that streamlines the assessment process. He has taught for the University of Tampa, Doane University in Lincoln, NE and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA.

Dr. Herdman has all three of his degrees from Pennsylvania State University, with additional course work completed at the University of South Florida and the University of Nebraska.
