Dr. John Herdman

John Herdman, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist with over 50 years of experience spanning education, military service, clinical counseling, and behavioral health consulting. He has presented trainings nationally and internationally on a wide range of topics, with a clinical focus on solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral approaches to address mental health and addiction-related issues.

Dr. Herdman founded two licensed outpatient substance abuse treatment centers in Pennsylvania before relocating to Nebraska. He also has experience working with detoxification and residential treatment programs. As a technical assistance consultant to the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), he provided guidance in evaluation design for prevention programs research and conducted needs assessments for schools, businesses, and communities.

He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2000. In his role as Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Chief of Human Resources Development at the Pentagon, he played a key role in developing the Air Force’s substance abuse counselor certification program. He also served on the board of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC).

Dr. Herdman is CEO of HerdmanHealth, a behavioral health IT company that streamlines assessment and documentation processes. He also is CEO of Parallels where he continues to write books and provide consultation services. In addition, he has taught at the University of Tampa, Doane University, and Loyola Marymount University.

He holds three degrees from Pennsylvania State University, with additional coursework completed at the University of South Florida and the University of Nebraska.
